Trans Continental .303 Shooting Competition.

This blog has now moved to – http://www.gunsandzen.com please follow the link.

There is still frost on the ground when we arrive at Bisley. We are here to shoot in Australia. We cannot be in Australia for the weekend, we have neither the time nor the money to fly around the world to fire 24 rounds at large back circles deep in the Australian bush. But what we can do, is turn up as the range opens, buy 40 rounds of PPU ammunition and lie down in the subzero temperatures to try replicate the conditions of New South Wales and shoot. The idea is old fashioned, it used to be called “postal shoots”. We still post our results, no longer by post, but by email and with photos. The Australians take our scores and write them on the board at the weekend with all the other shooters.

Like most sports the majority of recreational participants are “fair weather” shooters. I don’t blame them to be honest! No one enjoys getting wet/cold/blown over.. If you compete at shooting events you will know that you simply have to deal with whatever conditions occur. Bearing that in mind, a group of us decided to head to the welsh valleys in January for a days sport. I spent the week before said shoot getting the 4×4 serviced and prepped as forecasts were looking slightly ominous! I figured vehicle reliability would be rather important. And it was..

How to get into shooting sports in the UK.

This blog has now moved to – http://www.gunsandzen.com please follow the link.

The United Kingdom has a long and proud history regarding shooting sports. It also has some of the strictest laws in the world regarding the use or ownership of firearms. I speak regularly with people who would like to give target sports a go but dismiss the idea as they assume it would be impossible. So is it possible and how does one go about it safely, legally and responsibly? I hope to point you guys in the right direction and provide links and resources here for the new shooter.
